Attending social functions

Social Functions (Marriages/Birthdays/Housewarming etc) in India are the same like anywhere else in the world - lot of cheer, people in their best attire for the occasion, lot of good food, smiles, people taking pics etc. But there is one thing which differentiates the Indian ones from others - Chaos. Like any other aspect of life in India, chaos (and confusion and everything going wrong) is essential part of functions. I’ve put down below what I’ve personally faced and observed while attending them.

You are either the first or last to arrive.

You realized you forgot to shave and dad is upset about it that you’re looking like an idiot.

You wave to someone, he doesn’t notice and everyone else except him has seen you waving to him. You scratch your head in disappointment.

You see someone wave towards you, you wave back with a smile, you later realize he was saying Hello to the person behind you.

The old lady/gentleman you enthusiastically go and greet doesn’t recognize you.

The old lady/gentleman you failed to greet, says to others - See, this guy has become very haughty these days.

The kids are running around, atleast one of them falls down and cries loudly.

The person you dont want to be with, comes and sits beside you and photographer clicks a pic of you both.

The person you planned to meet either didnt turn up or is out of country or is busy with his kids. Since there is no one else of your age group, you end up having a conversation with people who are 20 younger to you or 20 years elder to you.

Your favorite item in the menu is over by the time you have food or was not prepared properly.

Papads from some people’s plates fly away.

Atleast two people have tripped over the wires brought by the photographer or videographer.

You are unable to see the whats going on on the stage, because the photographer and videographer are standing between you and them.

The washroom is always occupied when you want to use it urgently.

Atleast two people have lost / misplaced their footwear.

When you’re drinking water, someone’s elbow touches your hand and water spills on the most awkward area on your pants.

You give your feedback (if negative) about the food to everyone except the hosts. To the hosts, you will always say - ‘Its excellent’.

You take all these memories back home and recount them later.

How To...

How to keep your mind engaged when you don't have work at work

 

1. Arrive in office at or after 11 AM. That way, half of the day is already over and you are closer to lunch time.

2. Check all your emails (official, personal) and twitter and facebook accounts even though its not even an hour since you last checked them.

3. Keep the above windows always open so that you can keep checking them every few mins.

 

4. Say hello to everyone online in Gtalk.

 

5. Go to coffee and Observe the following at coffee and make (mental) notes of the numbers. (Numbers are everything in today's world. Arent they?)
    

         a. Number of people having different kinds of beverages - coffee, tea, lemon tea, Green tea etc

         b. Number of people grabbing biscuits while sipping a beverage

         c. Number of people not having biscuits

         d. Number of people who came in only to have biscuits

         e. Number of people using pantry as a place to make personal calls

 

6. Go to coffee atleast twice in the day.

7. If you are really bored, look at the CC camera and wave your hand towards it.

8. Every 10 mins glance at your team members and see who is in seat and who is not.

 

9. Look at the ceiling and walls and pretend as if you're in a deep thought about some technical issue.

 

10. Extend the lunch to 1 or 1 1/2 hrs.

 

11. Meet all your friends near your office, one per day. (Dont meet all of them together, you wont have anyone to meet the next day)

 

12. Open Google News and read all the news posts.

 

13. Open Technology sites and browse all the latest updates even though you dont understand most of them.

 

14. Reboot your system every 1 hour.

 

15. Go to the lobby.

       a. Glance through all the newspapers for the day.

       b. Observe the following at lobby (Again numbers are everything right?)

           b1. Number of people using lift to go the next floor. (lazy people, huh)
           b2. Number of people going for the smoke.
           b3. Which lift is being used by max number of people.
           b4. Longest time anyone had to wait for a lift.

16. Try to write silly stuff like this

17. Promptly leave at 6 PM.

Rakta Charithra - A Tinglish Review

రక్త చరిత్ర - ఆ పేరే నాకు ఆ సినిమా మీద పెద్ద ఆసక్తి లేకుండా చేసింది. రక్త చరిత్ర - వర్మ గారికి ఇంక ఏ పేరూ దొరకలేదా? యూత్ అనే ఒక section of audience తప్పితే ఇంకెవరూ దానిని చూడడానికి ధైర్యం చేసేలా లేదు ఆ పేరు. సరే పేరుని అలా పక్కన పెడితే... ఈ సినిమా లో ఏ పాత్రలూ ఎవరినీ ఉద్దేశించినవి కావు ... అనే standard disclaimer వేస్కున్నా ఇది ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ లోని అనంతపూర్ లో factionist గొడవలూ ముఖ్యంగా పరిటాల రవీంద్ర కథ అని అందరికీ తెలుసు. Based On A True Story అని ఆ disclaimer వెంటే చూపించారు కూడా.

ఒక సినిమా రెండు భాగాలూ ఒక వారం రోజుల తేడాలో విడుదల చేయటం భారతీయ (ప్రపంచ?) సినీ చరిత్ర లోనే ఒక achievement అనుకుంటా.

మొదటి భాగంలో మొదట చూపించిన కొన్ని murder సీన్లు mechanical గా ఇంపాక్ట్ లేనట్లు గా అనిపించాయి. శివ సినిమాలో శుభలేఖ సుధాకర్ murder చాలా powerful గా ఉంటుంది. ప్రేక్షకులని కదిలించే విధంగా ఉంటుంది. ఈ సినిమా లో బుక్కా రెడ్డి murder సీన్ మంచి intense గా picturize చేశారు వర్మ. ఒక murder సీన్ చూపిస్తూ బాక్గ్రౌండ్ లో శివ స్తోత్రం , మృత్యుంజయ మంత్రం పెట్టటం బహుశా వర్మ గారికే చెల్లింది. Narration లో మాత్రం వర్మ గారి వాయిస్ హాస్యాస్పదం గా అనిపించింది. మంచి గంభీరమైన వాయిస్ ఉన్న ఇంకెవరి చేతైనా చెప్పిస్తే బాగుండేది. మొదటి భాగం లో బెస్ట్ acting అభిమన్యు సింగ్ ది అనిపించింది . బుక్కా రెడ్డి పాత్ర లో చాలా బాగా నటించారు. అడవిలో పాట (సుఖ్విందర్ సింగ్) అనవసరం.

ఇక రెండవ భాగానికి వస్తే 'ఎఫ్ఫెక్ట్' కోసం అని అతిగా slow motion వాడి బోర్ కొట్టించారు వర్మ. ఇంకేదో ఎఫ్ఫెక్ట్ కోసం కెమెరా ని తలకిందులు గా కూడా పెట్టి కొన్ని సీన్స్ ఉన్నాయి. ఇలాంటివి అనవసరం అనిపించింది. హిందీ లో కూడా విడుదల చేశారు కాబట్టి Non Telugus ఈ కథ కి ఎంత connect అవుతారనేది ప్రశ్నార్ధకమే. రెండవ భాగం లో acting తో ఆకట్టుకున్న నటుడు సుదీప్. DCP పాత్రలో బాగా చేశారాయన.

మొత్తానికి Run Of The Mill రొమాంటిక్ మూవీస్ మరియు standard concepts తో వస్తున్న ఈ మధ్య సినిమాల కంటే రక్త చరిత్ర బాగుంది అనిపించింది. My Rating 3/5. ఇదీ నా రివ్యూ. టాపిక్ ఈజ్ ఓవర్. (NTR గారు నిజంగానే అలా అనేవారా?)
